Interactive Monastery Tour

The following panoramic immersive "walk-through" tours with embedded video, sound, and photo slide shows is the product of field work by Justin McDaniel and Phanuthep Sutthithep with assistance from Matthew Wheeler, Caverlee Cary, and Phra Sugandha (Dr. Anil Sakya). Initial field research took place at three monasteries in metropolitan Bangkok and Thonburi: Wat Ratchaorot, Wat Rakhang Ghositaram, and Wat Pathum Wanraram. Tireless technical assistance was provided by Sohail Wasif, Kelvin Mac, James Lin, and Nasser Solomon. Video is in High Definition (1080). The prototype immersive "walk-through" is at Wat Ratchaorot, a monastery largely built under the reign of King Rama III in the 1830s. Basic information about the monastery is available in the video interviews in the tour. The tour can be accessed via the "satellite map" or the "street map" on the front page of the tour. The aerial satellite and historic photographs were provided by Col. Surat Lertlum and Danai Thaitakoo. Most photographs were taken by Justin McDaniel. However, Phanuthep Sutthithep and Matthew Wheeler shot most video except for the ritual videos.
